The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has raised an alert over rising water levels at Bakin Kogi in Jimeta, Adamawa State, which have surpassed the warning threshold of 6.0 metres.
In a statement on Wednesday via its X handle, the agency warned that low-lying areas of Jimeta and surrounding flood-prone communities face an immediate threat. Current discharge rates from upstream sources have exceeded 3,222 cubic metres per second.
NEMA’s Yola Operations Office has placed disaster response units on high alert and activated coordination with Disaster Response Units (DRUs) and other stakeholders for possible evacuation and relief efforts.
The agency urged residents to strictly follow official safety instructions, noting that some displaced persons are already sheltering at Limawa and Gwadabawa Secondary Schools.
