1. The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, has alleyed all fear of residents in the FCT and the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force, in concert with other security agencies, to ensure the safety of all residents within the country. IGP debunks claims by the UK and US embassies of terror threat alerts in Nigeria, especially Abuja.
The IGP similarly directed that all emergency numbers across the country should be activated to full capacity for a 24/7 prompt response with combatant officers and men on standby to respond in case of emergency situations and distress calls. ”Residents within the FCT are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious or abnormal occurrence and persons to the Police through the following emergency lines: 08032003913, 08061581938, 07057337653, and 08028940883.
2. Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa, has vowed to go after and arrest politicians involved in vote buying, ahead of the 2023 general elections. Bawa, who appeared before the Senate Committee on Anti-corruption, told newsmen that the Commission will work with the electoral body to implement a section of the Electoral Act that deals with inducement and vote buying.
3. The United Kingdom’s General Medical Council has licensed 91 Nigerian-trained doctors. It was discovered that the accreditation of the 91 doctors occurred over 15 days between October 10 and October 25, 2022. The total number of Nigerian-trained doctors in the UK now stands at 10,387.
4. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has revealed that former President Jonathan was not invited in a N4.6bn allegedly transferred into a Joint Trust account to finance the the 2015 presidential campaign of former President Goodluck Jonathan. It stated that Jonathan was not the one that expended the money.
Investigating officer Shehu Shuaibu, on Thursday said this while testifying before Justice Daniel Osiagor in the trial of former Minister of Finance, Senator Nenadi Usman; former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, and two others over alleged money laundering and other fraud-related offences.
5. The Ondo State Police Command has begun investigation into the death of a man who allegedly died after a sex romp with a woman in the state. The victim, identified only as Lanre, died after a marathon sexual intercourse with the woman at a hotel in Ondo town on Wednesday. The identity of the woman had yet to be ascertained as of the time of filing this report.
6. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has presented N1.69 trillion 2023 Appropriation Bill before the Lagos State House of Assembly yesterday. It was tagged Budget of Continuity, for sustenance of strategic investments in human capital and keeping the economy on the path of growth are among priorities. The governor also listed health, environment, education and economy, as major concerns to his administration in the coming year.
7. The billionaire founder of Tesla Inc., Elon Musk has sacked three top Twitter executives, after acquiring the internet giant. The development is coming less than a day after completing the acquisition of Twitter, and also after Musk promised not to fire workers. The top executives sacked include; Parag Agrawal, chief executive officer; Ned Segal, chief financial officer; and Vijaya Gadde, the firm’s top legal and policy executive.
One of the executives, Gadde, was said to have been fired for playing a major role in the ban of Donald Trump, former president of the United States of America, from using Twitter.
8. President Muhammadu Buhari has told Nigerians living in the Republic of Korea that they serve as the “faces of Nigeria” and should work to promote a positive image of the nation by their behaviours, attitudes, and overall demeanor. According to a statement by Mr. Femi Adesina, Buhari stated this during an interactive meeting with the leadership and select members of the Nigerian Community at the First World Bio Summit 2022.
9. A lottery company, Green Lotto, has explained its decision not to pay one Sunday Nwachukwu his winning claim of N72.7 million after playing one of its games, siting that its decision was hinged on the fact that the claimant allegedly engaged in irregularities, hence he does not deserve the money in question. The matter was already before a court of law.
10. Bayelsa State government, yesterday, said it has received over N500 million in cash and pledges from Akwa Ibom and Lagos governments, as well as top politicians and philanthropists to assist flood victims. Governor Douye Diri disclosed this during the State Executive Council meeting.
