At least 22 people have lost their lives and 20 others sustained injuries in a fatal trailer crash that occurred in the early hours of Monday along the Lapai–Lambata road in Niger State.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander in the state, Aishat Saadu, confirmed the incident, noting that the trailer was carrying both passengers and livestock from Kano to Lagos.
“The crash happened at approximately 3:00 a.m. and involved 42 people in total. Sadly, 22 were confirmed dead, and **20 were rescued with varying degrees of injuries,” she said.
Eyewitness reports suggest that many of the victims were residents of Zamfara State, believed to be travelling for commercial purposes.
Emergency responders quickly transported the injured to the Federal Medical Centre in Lambata, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the General Hospital in Suleja.
The lone crash has once again raised serious concerns about overloading, night travel, and road safety compliance on Nigerian highways.
