Buba Galadima, a senior chieftain of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has lamented the dangers of speaking truth to power in Nigeria’s political environment.
In an interview on Channels Television, Galadima, who has spent decades navigating Nigeria’s turbulent politics, said honesty often comes at heavy personal and political costs.
“In the Nigerian context, I’m the worst man — not because I’m bad, but because Nigeria doesn’t like my type,” he said.
According to him, outspoken leaders are deliberately sidelined and denied access to positions of influence. He cited his daughter’s ordeal as an example, recounting how despite winning a councillorship seat, she was denied her rightful entitlements simply because of her connection to him.
“This is how vindictive Nigerian politics can be,” Galadima added. “People are punished not for their own actions but because of who they are associated with.”
