Troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have rescued 14 kidnapped victims in Kogi State following sustained offensive operations against terrorists operating in forest enclaves around the Lokoja axis.
A credible military source disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday, saying the victims were freed after a successful assault on Batijjoâs camp located in the Adonkolo/Kakanda Forest.
According to the source, the troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce firefight, overran the camp, and forced the criminals to flee into the forest.
During the operation, soldiers recovered weapons, ammunition, military and police camouflage, documents, and a foreign passport, further weakening the terroristsâ operational capacity.
One of the rescued victims was identified as a serving Nigerian soldier who was abducted while traveling from Abeokuta to Zaria. All the rescued persons were stabilised by military medical teams.
In a follow-up operation at Tajimi, troops ambushed a fleeing terrorist who abandoned his motorcycle before escaping. The motorcycle was recovered and is now being used for intelligence exploitation.
The troops also responded swiftly to another kidnapping incident along the OkeneâOnyukoko Road, where they rescued seven escapees, while search-and-rescue operations continue for the remaining victims.
The military source reaffirmed the Nigerian Armyâs commitment to sustain aggressive operations aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and restoring peace across Kogi State and neighbouring areas.
