Nigerians blast Eagles B over 4-0 defeat to Sudan

Date:

Nigerians have taken to social media to express anger and disappointment following the Super Eagles B team’s heavy 4-0 defeat to Sudan at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) on Tuesday.

Below are some comments gathered on X:

@Welly_Marshall: “They will win next time! They don try, make them go house.”

@PoojaMedia: “Monumental d!sgrace for the Super Eagles B.”

@wale_chips: “They are just playing like they don’t have a coach… nobody in that midfield”

@TOLA_AYANFE: “The defense is awful and the midfielders giving nonsense passes.”

@di_untouchable: “Make this coach resign and these are not footballers but National disgrace. I don’t blame coaches that don’t select home-grown players.”

@starkid_de: “Super Eagles no sabi anything.”

@OseremenPrince: “Make @PoliceNG arrest them when they come to Nigeria… they supposed to dey cell. 1. Wasting resources of Nigeria wey government for use improves police pension. 2. For making the coach look “incompetent.” 3. For disgracing “Giant of Africa.”

The loss, which came in their second group-stage match, saw goals from Leonard Ngenge (own goal), Walieldin Khedr, and a brace from Abdel Raouf seal Sudan’s emphatic victory. The result followed Nigeria’s 1-0 loss to Senegal in their opening game, leaving them with no points from two matches and officially out of the tournament.

Eric Chelle’s men will face Congo in a dead-rubber final group fixture next Tuesday, but the early exit has already sparked outrage among fans. On X (formerly Twitter), many supporters described the team’s performance as embarrassing, with some calling for the coach’s resignation and questioning the selection of home-based players.

One user described the outing as a “monumental disgrace,” while others criticised the team’s defence and midfield as disorganised and ineffective. Some went as far as suggesting punitive measures for the players, accusing them of wasting national resources and tarnishing Nigeria’s football reputation.
