Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing Sunday has disclosed that she stepped away from acting after receiving a ₦1 million weekly salary from an anonymous benefactor.
She made the revelation during an appearance on the podcast Curiosity Made Me Ask, hosted by Bae U Barbie.
According to Blessing, the generous offer came at a time when she was struggling to make substantial income from her film roles. “Someone anonymously put me on a ₦1 million weekly salary because I wasn’t getting paid enough for movie roles — that’s why I took a break from acting,” she said.
The actress noted that despite her active involvement in the industry, she often couldn’t make up to ₦1 million in profit from a single movie, prompting her to reconsider the value of her efforts.
“The financial stability made me realise I didn’t need to keep working on low-paying projects,” she added.
Nkechi Blessing’s disclosure comes as part of her broader reflection on the economic challenges actors face in Nollywood, where low remuneration remains a concern for many practitioners.
