NLC, TUC Lock Down Taraba Over Biometric Irregularities

Date:

Government operations in Taraba State have been crippled following the commencement of an indefinite strike by the state chapters of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).

The industrial action, which began at midnight on Monday, August 11, 2025, was declared after a joint State Executive Council meeting on Sunday at the NLC Secretariat in Jalingo. The unions cited alleged irregularities in the activities of the state’s Biometric Data Capture Committee and the government’s failure to address their grievances despite an earlier ultimatum.

In a bulletin co-signed by NLC State Secretary Adamu W. Buba and TUC State Secretary Polina I. Gani, affiliate branches were directed to mobilise strike committees to ensure total compliance. “All workers are hereby directed to stay away from their places of work and withdraw their services until further notice,” the statement read.

Union leaders said the strike would continue until the government corrected the alleged wrongs, urging stakeholders to intervene. As of press time, the state government had not issued a response, while public offices and services across Jalingo and other parts of the state remained at a standstill.
