The New Nigeria Peoples Party in Kano State has urged the Kano State House of Assembly to act with caution in the ongoing impeachment process against Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo.
In a statement issued on March 5, 2026, the party’s state Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Karaye, warned that removing an elected official requires careful consideration, particularly amid increasing political realignments and defections within the state.
The party stressed that elected officials should not be compelled to make decisions that contradict their personal principles or political convictions, adding that the current political climate demands restraint and strict adherence to democratic norms.
The NNPP also called on the Kano State Government to avoid actions that could trigger a political crisis, urging authorities to allow party members to freely express their political views without intimidation or prejudice.
The warning follows impeachment proceedings initiated by lawmakers during plenary in line with Section 188 of the Constitution of Nigeria, with the deputy governor accused of gross misconduct, abuse of office and breach of public trust linked to his tenure as commissioner for local government between 2023 and 2024 and his current role.
