Former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has firmly dismissed speculations linking him to a 2027 presidential bid, reaffirming his unwavering support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election.
The clarification was issued in a statement on Friday by Bello’s Media Director, Michael Ohiare, in response to a resurfaced video of a 2022 rally, which some claimed signaled a fresh campaign effort against President Tinubu.
Bello, visibly surprised by the claims, described the video as outdated and misleading. “Our principal, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has no presidential ambition for 2027,” the statement read. “He remains fully committed to the success and re-election of President Tinubu.”
Ohiare emphasized that the rally video being circulated clearly bears the 2022 date, and its recycling is the work of political mischief-makers seeking to stir unnecessary controversy.
“The fabricators forgot that the 2022 dates are boldly written on the banners. Yet they expect people to believe it’s recent. It’s a desperate attempt to sow discord and confusion,” he said.
He went on to label the viral post as the handiwork of “witless minds” and accused detractors of deliberately trying to damage Bello’s reputation and pit him against the president.
“This is not the first time enemies of progress have attempted to drive a wedge between Bello and President Tinubu. However, these schemes have consistently failed,” the statement added.
Ohiare urged Nigerians to disregard what he called a “senseless” attempt to create division where none exists, reiterating that Bello remains focused on national development and party unity.
