NYSC inaugurates bakery, water factory, others in Keffi
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), launched its Bakery, Water and Clothing Factories and Skills Acquisition and Business Development (SAED) for North-Central.
The Nigerian News Agency reports that the projects were inaugurated on Monday. Abdullahi Sule from Nasarawa State, at Magaji Dan Yamusa NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Keffi, Nasarawa State.
Sule praised the NYSC for the laudable achievement, adding that the companies underlined the importance of not only acquiring a degree but also a skill.
“So, I want to thank you for your vision, for redefining and reinvigorating NYSC, and for bringing this vision to life.
“I want to assure you that by God, we will not only sponsor the products that you have here as a state, but we will find ways to work together as a team because this is coming just in time.
“I firmly believe that from God Nigeria will win, our leaders will continue to be blessed with the wisdom to overcome all the challenges we face.”
NYSC CEO, Maj.-Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, at the opening, said that the execution of the projects was to revitalize the NYSC Ventures and SAED program in line with the NYSC Law for greater impact.
According to him, both ventures are very important in light of the economic realities that prevail today.
“SAED is geared towards empowering youth corps members for self-employment and wealth creation.
“NYSC businesses, which include agricultural and other businesses, aim to provide some of our kit items and other essentials for completion of the orientation course.
“This is in addition to serving as a source of income and training ground for members of the youth corps.
“Our priority attention to the development of enterprises is particularly in line with the policies of the Federal Government on food security and diversification of the economy through the optimization of the nation’s potential in non-oil sectors.”
While highlighting some of the organization’s achievements through NYSC companies elsewhere in the country, Ibrahim said that more than N1 billion was generated through these sources and paid into Federal Government coffers between 2020 and 2021.
He said that while the new bakery, clothing and water factories were indicative of the organization’s commitment to expanding its income-generating platforms, they would also serve as additional training pathways for corps members to enroll in relevant vocational skills under the SAED program.
He added that the complex was unique in that it had the largest number of NYSC factories located in the same location.
The NYSC chief said that, like similar ones set up for the Northeast, Northwest and Southwest, it would give youth corps members access to effective post-camp training in different vocational skill areas.
“We are already in discussions with Nasarawa State University about a proposed partnership where the institution’s Unit will use this facility to impart business skills to both corpsmen and interested youth from the Keffi community. ”.
He urged facility managers to safeguard equipment maintenance standards at all times, adding that NYSC management will provide all necessary support for the effective operation and sustainability of the ventures.
Senator Abdullahi Adamu, a former governor of the state and president of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said skills acquisition was highly critical.
This, he said, was because the government was not in a position to employ all members of the corps after graduation.
“So this type of initiative is very laudable and beyond the training skills that we have to also train these young people in the know-how, the approach of being self-sufficient,” he said.
NYSC Director of Business Management, Mr. Momoh Mohammed, said that the garment factory was equipped with 100 industrial sewing machines and other machines necessary for the production of high-quality kit items to be supplied to the members.
He also said that the water factory had three water packaging lines for the production of sachet water, as well as bottled water for pets and dispensers.
“In the bakery, we have installed a modern oven and other equipment necessary for the production of enriching bread for health.
“It is instructive to note that products from our bakery and water factory will be supplied to orientation camps in accordance with our mandate and will also be sold to the general public.”
