Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has expressed gratitude to Nigerians for their prayers and solidarity following an attack on him and members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Edo State. He said the support strengthened his faith in shared humanity and commitment to serving the country.
Obi made the remarks in a post on his verified X handle, where he specifically appreciated support extended to former Edo State Governor Chief John Oyegun and former Governor Professor Oserheimen Osunbor, who were also affected by the incident.
He noted that experiences of lawlessness are not new to him, recalling how violence and insecurity in Anambra State influenced his decision to run for governor with the aim of restoring order, security and public trust.
Obi warned that growing lawlessness in Nigeria requires citizens to act responsibly and elect leaders with competence, character and compassion. He quoted Plato to emphasise the importance of public participation in governance.
He reaffirmed his commitment to building a peaceful, secure and prosperous Nigeria, urging Nigerians to remain united and courageous in prioritising service above power and national interest above personal ambition.
