Olamide Calls Wizkid Greatest Afrobeats Artist After Fela

Date:

Nigerian rapper Olamide has described Grammy-winning singer Wizkid as the greatest Afrobeats artist after the late music icon Fela Kuti.

Olamide made the remark during a press conference in Canada while reflecting on his long-running creative partnership with Wizkid. “I am blessed to have collaborated with Wizkid on multiple occasions. You know Wizkid is the greatest Afrobeats artist ever after Fela,” he said.

He added that their collaborations were driven not by strategy or leverage but by genuine musical synergy and shared artistic direction.

Olamide’s statement has since reignited intense debate on social media, with fans arguing over the rightful heir to Fela’s legacy in contemporary Afrobeats.

The conversation follows a series of similar claims within the industry. Burna Boy recently described himself as the greatest African artist after Fela, while Davido has on several occasions declared himself the “King of Afrobeats.”

The renewed discourse has fuelled rivalry among fan bases of Wizkid, Davido and Burna Boy, each defending their favourite in the ongoing debate over who leads the Afrobeats genre today.
