Omo-Agege reveals what Late Ahmed Gulak went to do in Imo where he was killed

Deputy Senate President and Chairman, Senate Committee on Constitution Review, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege disclosef on Monday that the former Political Adviser to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Ahmed Gulak, was on a national assignment in Owerri, the Imo State capital where he was killed by unknown gunmen on Sunday morning.
Omo-Agege explained in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yomi Odunuga that Gulak, a legal practitioner and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC was in Owerri for the zonal public hearing on constitution review for the South East geo-political zone as one of the consultants to the committee.
While describing the assassination as wicked, dastardly, callous and barbaric; the Deputy Senate President called on security operatives to fish out the perpetrators and their sponsors.
He said: “There was no justifiable reason for this murderous act by the evil men behind Gulak’s death. I call on the police and other security agencies to fish out the assailants and their sponsors to face the full wrath of the law.
“This is the least we owe the late Gulak. And it will serve as a deterrent to others. Security agencies should immediately restore law and order in the South East and other parts of the country so that the situation does not escalate.
“I also call for restraints on the part of those irked by the dastardly act. Reprisal attacks would only exacerbate the already tense situation.”
The Deputy Senate President, who said the deceased would be greatly missed as he gave his all for the service of his country, commiserated with his family as well as the government and people of Adamawa State over the unfortunate incident.
“The death of Rt. Hon. Ahmed Gulak was a monumental tragedy that has shaken us as members of the Senate Constitution Review Committee to our bone marrow.
“As one of the consultants to the panel, he volunteered to go to Owerri for the zonal public hearing on constitution review. As a patriotic Nigerian, he died in national service,” Omo-Agege stressed.
The late Gulak was shot dead by unknown gunmen around Umueze Obiangwu in Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area close to the Sam Mbakwe Airport road in Owerri on Sunday morning while going for his flight.
Imo State Police Command announced on Sunday night that it has neutralised his killers and recovered ammunition and vehicles from them.
A statement issued by the police listed some of the arms recovered from the attackers as three AK 47 rifles, one pistol, five AK 47 magazines with 92 rounds of live ammunition.
