Oriyomi Hamzat Explains Decision to Join Oyo Governorship Race

Date:

Popular Oyo State-based broadcaster, Oriyomi Hamzat, has explained his decision to contest the 2027 Oyo State governorship election, citing what he described as a divine calling as the major reason for his entry into the race.

Hamzat, who announced his ambition under the Accord Party, said he carefully considered advice from supporters and critics before submitting the decision to God, whom he said approved his move. He spoke on Monday during a programme on Agidigbo FM while appreciating those who attended his recent rally in Ibadan.

The broadcaster noted that although many advisers warned him against contesting, he remained personally convinced that he could serve the people better than career politicians. He appealed for forgiveness and support from anyone offended by his decision, stressing that his motive was public service, not personal gain.

Dismissing fears that he could be rigged out or lose the election, Hamzat said he had moved beyond such concerns and was focused on winning the support of the people. He added that the turnout at his rally was organic and not influenced by money or inducement.

Hamzat formally declared his ambition on Saturday at a rally at Liberty Stadium, Ibadan, where he announced Accord as his political platform. He said his decision was not driven by wealth, political connections, or government backing, but by faith and a desire to serve the people of Oyo State.
