Rotimi Salami Breaks Silence on Controversial ‘Kilanko’ Promotion

Date:

Rotimi Salami, a Yoruba actor and film producer, has responded to criticism from an online user who accused him of using his late colleague, Allwell Ademola, to promote his new cinema movie, Kilanko: The Invisible Child. Salami has been sharing photos of the late actress while promoting the film, which she directed before her death.

The criticism emerged after a social media user questioned why Salami was using images of the late actress in promotional materials, urging him to allow her “rest peacefully” instead of using her memory to boost film sales.

Responding to the comment, Salami described the criticism as ignorant, stressing that people should not hide or ignore the achievements of loved ones after their death. He argued that promoting the film is also a way of celebrating the late actress’s work and legacy.

Allwell Ademola died on December 27 after suffering a heart attack at her home. Her colleagues later confirmed the news on social media, while a service of songs and candlelight procession was held in her honour before she was buried in early January.

Salami also revealed that the actress’s death deeply affected him and urged fans to support the film in cinemas. He warned that Kilanko: The Invisible Child could be removed from cinemas if ticket sales remain low. The film explores themes such as the Abiku child phenomenon, sickle cell disease, and the sacrifices of motherhood.
