The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has appointed former Nigerian Vice President Yemi Osinbajo (SAN) as the Head of its Election Observation Mission for the upcoming presidential election in Côte d’Ivoire.

According to an official statement from ECOWAS, the election is scheduled to take place on October 25, 2025, while the observation mission will be deployed from October 19 to 29, 2025, in line with the regional body’s Supplementary Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance.

“As Head of Mission, Osinbajo will lead a team of eminent West Africans to engage with key national stakeholders to encourage a peaceful and credible electoral process,” the statement said. “The mission will also work closely with both international and domestic observer groups to evaluate the conduct of the polls.”

ECOWAS noted that the deployment reflects its strong commitment to peace, stability, and credible elections throughout the West African region.

The Côte d’Ivoire election is taking place at a crucial moment for the region, as several ECOWAS member states gear up for major national elections amid ongoing efforts to strengthen democratic governance.
