Otti Says Steps Activated to Secure Nnamdi Kanu’s Release After Conviction

Date:

Abia State Governor Alex Otti says he has begun implementing agreed steps aimed at securing the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the convicted leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Kanu was on November 20 sentenced to life imprisonment by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja. According to Otti, efforts to secure his release began while the case was still ongoing.

“While Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is free to appeal his conviction, I’m happy to inform you that I have activated and will continue to work on the already agreed strategy until his freedom is secured,” Otti said in a statement issued on Saturday.

The governor added that he had communicated details of agreements reached with “the highest authorities” during his visit to Kanu at the Department of State Services (DSS) facility in Abuja.

Otti did not disclose the specific steps being taken but reaffirmed his commitment to pursuing all lawful avenues for Kanu’s release.
