Afrobeats star Ikuforiji Olaitan, popularly known as Oxlade, has revealed that he does not smoke or take hard drugs, attributing his lifestyle choices to his strong Christian upbringing and musical roots in the church.
Speaking in a candid interview with gospel singer Tim Godfrey, the Ku Lo Sa hitmaker said he was raised in a deeply religious and musically inclined family, which shaped both his character and approach to music. He explained that his journey in music began in the church choir, where he served in various leadership roles.
Oxlade disclosed that he coordinated multiple choir groups, including children’s, teenage, youth and mass choirs, adding that his long-standing involvement in church music played a major role in keeping him away from vices. He also highlighted his family’s musical background, noting that his grandmother is a deaconess and singer, while his grandfather was a multi-instrumentalist.
The singer further described gospel music as the foundation of his artistry, saying it remains his strongest form of music writing. He credited his success to divine guidance, stressing that his achievements are a reflection of God’s blessings rather than personal effort alone.
According to Oxlade, his career milestones, including touring over 40 cities with his debut album, reinforce his belief that his journey is being divinely orchestrated, leaving him with little reason to worry about public perception.
