PDP Crisis Self-Inflicted, Not External — Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro

Date:

The Senate Minority Leader, Abba Moro, has attributed the persistent instability within Nigeria’s political parties—particularly the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)—to the actions of party members rather than external interference.

Speaking during an interview on ARISE News on Thursday, Moro said recurring crises within the PDP and similar parties are largely self-inflicted, stressing that governors, lawmakers, and senior party leaders play central roles in shaping internal developments.

“I believe the responsibility lies mainly with political actors,” he said, adding that the visible turmoil within political parties stems from their own internal dynamics rather than outside pressure.

He further noted that those occupying leadership positions within the party structure bear the greatest responsibility for managing disagreements and ensuring stability.

Responding to reports of factional divisions within the PDP, Moro dismissed suggestions that the party had split into rival camps, insisting that it remains a single, unified organisation.

“There is only one PDP,” he stated.

Moro also reflected on earlier internal disputes, particularly a controversial party convention held in Ibadan, which he said worsened the party’s challenges because it was conducted despite an existing court order restraining the exercise.

According to him, the Court of Appeal later ruled the convention invalid, nullifying its outcomes and further complicating the party’s internal situation.
