PDP Northern Group Endorses Jonathan for 2027 Presidency

Date:

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Northern Support Group has endorsed former President Goodluck Jonathan as its preferred candidate for the 2027 presidential election.

The endorsement was contained in a communiqué issued after the group’s 8th meeting held in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, between Wednesday and Thursday.

According to the communiqué signed by the group’s Northern Coordinator, Yusuf Abubakar, and North-West Zonal Secretary, Adamu Narayi, Jonathan remains “the best option to restore party unity and national cohesion” ahead of 2027.

The coalition, which comprises PDP loyalists and support groups across the 19 northern states, reaffirmed confidence in the acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, commending his reconciliation efforts within the party.

The group urged Damagum to take disciplinary measures against members accused of anti-party activities and accused some leaders of working against reconciliation efforts by collaborating with the ruling APC.

It also dismissed concerns about Jonathan’s eligibility to contest again, insisting the matter had already been legally resolved and should not be used to create division within the party.

The group expressed optimism that with unity and grassroots mobilization, the PDP could reclaim power at both federal and state levels in 2027.
