The 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has criticised the government for demolishing citizens’ property without prior notice, describing the actions as both unlawful and insensitive.
In a post on his verified X account on Monday, Obi said such government actions are worsening the hardships faced by Nigerians. DAILY POST reports that several plazas at the trade fair complex in Ojo Local Government Area of Lagos State were recently demolished.
The operation was reportedly conducted by officials from the Lagos Ministry of Physical Planning, the Lagos State Building Control Agency, the Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency, and the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority.
Obi condemned the deliberate destruction of homes, shops, and goods by government agencies, calling it unacceptable, particularly under an administration whose policies, he claims, have pushed millions of Nigerians into poverty over the past 29 months.
He urged the government to prioritise compassion and relief measures for struggling families rather than compounding citizens’ difficulties. “These demolitions destroy livelihoods, undermine businesses, and threaten the economic security of hardworking citizens,” Obi wrote.
