The Plateau Municipal Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (PLAMWASSA) has completed 17 water supply projects across five local government areas in Plateau State, aimed at improving access to potable water and sanitation services in benefiting communities.
Some of the projects were handed over in Mangu Local Government Area, including an 80,000-litre capacity complex solar-powered motorised water scheme serving Mangun, Ampang West and Pushit communities.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, the agency’s General Manager, Jelkyes Jacob Dakat, described the intervention as part of efforts by the state government to strengthen water supply, sanitation and hygiene services across the state.
He added that other local government areas, including Jos East Local Government Area, also benefited from similar projects executed by the agency.
Dakat stressed the need for proper maintenance of the facilities, noting that communities must take responsibility for operating and sustaining the infrastructure in line with global best practices.
He said the projects represent a milestone in the administration of Caleb Mutfwang in improving residents’ quality of life through expanded access to potable water.
Traditional rulers and community leaders commended the state government for the intervention and pledged to safeguard the facilities to ensure their sustainability.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also signed between the state government and the benefiting communities, outlining guidelines for the operation, maintenance and long-term management of the water facilities.
