Plateau Attack Leaves Four Dead, Ten Missing – Islamic Group

Date:

The Plateau State chapter of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) has confirmed that four Muslims were killed and ten others remain missing following the deadly Palm Sunday attack in Anguwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area. The revelation was made in a statement by JNI Secretary Salim Umar on Tuesday, following a thorough investigation.

Umar stated that the casualties were not limited to a single religious group, contradicting earlier reports suggesting only Christians were targeted. Some of the victims’ bodies have been identified at Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), while the missing remain unaccounted for. Two injured individuals are currently receiving treatment at the hospital.

The attack, which eyewitnesses said was carried out by suspected terrorists dressed in military uniforms, took place on Sunday evening in a busy market, where residents were ambushed and shot indiscriminately. Community leaders indicated that the death toll could be higher than the confirmed figures, with at least 26 people reportedly killed.

The violence sparked protests on Monday, with residents defying a government-imposed curfew to demand accountability and urgent intervention. Security forces later dispersed the crowds, further intensifying tensions in the area.

JNI extended condolences to the families of the victims and urged residents to remain calm, while appreciating the efforts of state authorities and security agencies in managing the situation. The organisation continues to liaise with victims’ families as investigations into the attack continue.
