Nottingham Forest head coach Ange Postecoglou says he is unconcerned by pressure over his position, despite failing to win any of his opening six matches in charge.
The Australian took over from Nuno Espirito Santo at the City Ground in the summer but has yet to deliver a victory, leaving some supporters frustrated. The discontent grew after Thursday’s 3-2 Europa League defeat to Midtjylland, during which sections of fans chanted: “You’re getting sacked in the morning,” according to BBC Sport.
Postecoglou, however, insisted he remains focused on long-term progress. “It doesn’t enter my head,” he said. “My responsibility lies in making sure this football club progresses and gets to a position where it can challenge for things. If I start putting timelines to that or worry about what is going to happen next week, then I am not performing the role I have been given.”
The 60-year-old pointed to his record at Tottenham Hotspur, where he won the Europa League last season despite knowing months in advance that he would be dismissed. “That didn’t stop me from winning something,” he said.
Postecoglou stressed he still believes Forest are close to turning a corner. “At the end of the day, I have to concentrate on the environment, the training, the way we play. I am still very strong in my belief that we are not too far away.”
The former Celtic boss joined Tottenham in 2023 and initially impressed supporters with his attacking approach, guiding Spurs to a fifth-place Premier League finish in his first season.
His second year proved more challenging, with the club slipping to fourth from bottom in the league. However, he delivered Spurs’ first silverware in 17 years by defeating Manchester United in the Europa League final.
Postecoglou now faces the task of lifting a Forest side that has yet to find rhythm this season, as pressure grows both domestically and in Europe.
