Court Dismisses Suit Challenging Natasha Uduaghan-Apoti’s Suspension

Date:

The Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a suit seeking to overturn the suspension of Kogi Central Senator Natasha Uduaghan-Apoti from the Senate.

Justice James Omotosho, delivering judgment on Friday, struck out the case filed by Ovavu Illiyasu and nine others, ruling that the plaintiffs lacked the legal standing to challenge the Senate’s disciplinary action.

The suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/654/2025, contested the six-month suspension imposed on Uduaghan-Apoti over alleged misconduct. The plaintiffs argued that the suspension deprived their senatorial district of representation and urged the court to void the Senate’s decision.

Justice Omotosho, however, held that only the affected senator or a party with direct legal interest could challenge the action. “The plaintiffs do not have locus standi to institute this suit,” he ruled, adding that the matter was without merit.

The decision effectively upholds the Senate’s authority to discipline its members, leaving Uduaghan-Apoti’s suspension intact.
