Connie Francis, once the world’s best-selling female recording artist, has died at the age of 87.
The American singer, known for hits such as Stupid Cupid and Who’s Sorry Now, passed away on Wednesday night following complications from pneumonia, according to Ron Roberts, president of her record label. Roberts said she had recently been hospitalized with pelvic pain due to a fracture when doctors discovered the infection.
Her death was announced by Roberts on Facebook, where he wrote, “with a heavy heart and extreme sadness,” adding, “I know that Connie would approve that her fans are among the first to learn of this sad news.”
Francis’s passing comes amid a surprising revival of her 1962 ballad Pretty Little Baby, which recently went viral on TikTok. Originally released as a B-side, the song became a soundtrack for affectionate videos featuring children and pets, shared by millions — including celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner.
One clip by influencers Brooke Monk and Sam Dezz alone garnered over 158 million views.
ABBA’s Agnetha Fältskog posted the song as a tribute, calling Francis her favorite singer. Actress Gracie Lawrence, currently portraying Francis in the Broadway musical Just in Time, also shared a video of herself performing the track in character.
In an interview with People magazine last month, Francis expressed astonishment at the song’s sudden popularity. “To tell you the truth, I didn’t even remember the song!” she said. “To think that a song I recorded 63 years ago is touching the hearts of millions is truly awesome. It is an amazing feeling.”
Francis leaves behind a legacy as a pioneering voice in pop music, whose career spanned decades and whose influence remains deeply felt across generations.
