The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Youth Province 1, Festac, has distributed back-to-school items to 2,150 children across its parishes, easing the financial burden on parents as schools reopen for a new academic session.
In a statement released on Thursday, the province said the initiative, tagged “Back to School Drive”, was held simultaneously in all parishes. Beneficiaries received school bags, water bottles, exercise books, pencils, sharpeners, erasers, mathematical sets, and other learning materials.
Pastor Oluwagbemileke Adeboye, Pastor-in-Charge of Youth Province 1, said the initiative was organised by Pastor Martins Olusakin, Pastor-in-Charge of Province CSR, in collaboration with Pastor Abiodun Famojuro, Assistant Pastor-in-Charge of Province Admin.
Speaking at the distribution exercise, Adeboye highlighted the church’s commitment to promoting education.“Education is one of the greatest gifts we can give our children because it empowers them to dream bigger, think critically, and contribute meaningfully to society. By providing these items, we are investing in their future and ensuring nothing stands in the way of their learning,” he said.
Parents and guardians praised the initiative, noting that the rising cost of educational materials has made back-to-school preparations increasingly difficult.
One of the excited beneficiaries, 10-year-old David Oye, proudly displayed his new bag and mathematical set, saying:“I am happy because I can now go back to school with a new bag, books, and pencils.”
The RCCG Youth Province 1 leadership reaffirmed its commitment to making the Back-to-School Drive an annual initiative.
The Redeemed Christian Church of God, one of Nigeria’s largest Pentecostal denominations, has a long history of corporate social responsibility (CSR). Through its CSR arm and His Love Foundation, the church has supported education, healthcare, and community development projects nationwide.
In January 2025, RCCG Youth Province 1 offered free UTME forms to indigent students, while in June 2024, RCCG Old Pen Cinema Parish donated computers to boost ICT education in a Lagos school. The church has also supported traders, vulnerable families, and even offered free bus rides to commuters during tough economic times.
