Nigerian singer Reekado Banks has revealed that fellow artist Wizkid has expressed regret over their 2020 public fallout during the #EndSARS protests.
The dispute began in October 2020 when Reekado Banks announced the release of their collaborative track Omo Olomo amid nationwide protests against police brutality. Wizkid, who was among the celebrities actively supporting the movement, reacted angrily, calling Banks a “fool” and a “clout animal” on social media.
In a recent appearance on The Esther Show, Reekado Banks explained that the decision to release the song during the protests was made by his management, despite his initial objections.
He added that the two artists have since reconciled, following a personal visit by Wizkid to Banks’ restaurant. During their conversation, Wizkid reportedly admitted his reaction at the time was excessive.
“Recently, he [Wizkid] came visiting my restaurant. We had a little talk, and he was a little regretful about it. He said he shouldn’t have gone that route,” Banks said.
He also noted that Wizkid referenced past tension with music executive Don Jazzy during their talk, further acknowledging moments he felt he mishandled.
According to Banks, both artists bonded over shared personal losses, as they recently lost their mothers, which helped ease the tension.
“He said we are three people in the game who recently lost our moms, and he feels sorry about that time. So, we are good now,” Banks added.
The reconciliation marks a resolution to one of the more notable rifts in the Nigerian music industry in recent years.
