Senate begins annual recess, to resume Sept 23

Date:

Senate on Thursday began its annual long recess after adjourning plenary sessions till Tuesday, September 23, 2025.

President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio announced this following the adoption of a motion moved by the Leader of the Red Chamber, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele (APC Ekiti Central) during a brief plenary

Akpabio, however, reminded the lawmakers that they were not embarking on a total holiday, saying they are expected to continue with their oversight functions over various ministries, departments and agencies, MDAs, especially projects being executed in their constituencies across the country..

The Senate President particularly charged all standing and ad hoc committees to make effective use of the two-month break to finalise their assignments in order to ease legislative consideration and adoption upon resumption.

According to him, each committee would be expected to submit a report on its oversight activities to the Senate upon resumption.

Meanwhile, Akpabio urged the senators to attend the burial of the wife of their colleague, Senator Diket Plang, holding on Friday in Jos, the Plateau State capital.
