Senate has confirmed the appointments of presidential nominees into the boards of Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, RMAFC and the Stock Exchange Commission, SEC, respectively.

This is even as security report based on petitions against the nomination of Barrister Emmanuel O. Nwosu from Imo State forced the upper legislative chamber to suspend his confirmation.

Those newly appointed as members of RMAFC are: Salamatu Mohammed Bala from Adamawa State, Hon. Alfred Egba (Bayelsa), Alhaji Adamu Shettima Yuguda Dibal (Borno), Oladele Semiu Gboyega (Osun), Bello Abubakar Wammako (Sokoto) and Ahmed A. Yusuf from Taraba State.

The appointment of the nominees was approved after the Senate considered the report of the Committee on National Planning and Economic Affairs, chaired by Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi (APC Ekiti North).

In his presentation, Senator Adetunmbi recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari made the nomination pursuant to a letter dated May 5 forwarded to the upper legislative chamber for the consideration and confirmation of the nominees’ appointments.

However, the committee chairman informed that the screening of Barrister Emmanuel O. Nwosu from Imo State was suspended following some petitions received against his nomination which the Department of State Service, DSS claimed it’s still investigating.

Accordingly, the Senate deferred the confirmation of appointment of Nwosu until all security checks on his nomination and person are carried out and cleared by all relevant security agencies.

In his remarks, the Senate President congratulated the new appointees and wished them well in their new assignments even as he noted that the task of revenue mobilisation and allocation has become more tedious than the past.

Also confirmed were the appointments of Mr. Lamido A. Yuguda from Gombe State as the Director General of the SEC and three others as full time commissioners in the commission.

The full time commissioners are Mr. Reginald C. Karawusa from Imo State, Mr. Ibrahim D. Boyi from Katsina Mr. Obisan T. Joseph from Lagos State.

The confirmation of the nominees followed the consideration of the report of the Senate Committee on Capital Market, headed by Senator Ibikunle Amosun (APC Ogun Central).

Senator Amosun, while presenting the report, said all the nominees, having been cleared by the security agencies, were thoroughly screened and found suitable for appointment as full commissioners in the SEC.

As such, he said that they have been recommended for confirmation by the Senate in line with its constitutional powers.

The Senate President in his remarks said, “this is the time that the SEC should be more effective and efficient in ensuring that we are able to attract and sustain foreign direct investment”, adding that “people should feel save in carrying out their investments in the country.”
