Vice President Kashim Shettima will today, Wednesday, deliver Nigeria’s national statement at the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The address, scheduled between 3:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. New York time, was confirmed in a statement by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Office of the Vice President.

Nigeria’s statement is expected to highlight key global issues, including strengthening multilateralism, reforming the United Nations, advancing climate action, and restructuring international finance systems.

At last year’s UNGA, President Tinubu called for permanent seats for Africa on the UN Security Council, a proposal that is now under consideration.

Shettima’s address is anticipated to reinforce Nigeria’s position on global reforms while also outlining the administration’s foreign policy priorities.
