Sultan Advocates Aggressive Action Against Terrorist Camps

Date:

The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, has called on Nigeria’s military and security agencies to adopt a more aggressive strategy against terrorists following deadly bomb attacks in Maiduguri, Borno State. The explosions, which occurred at multiple locations including a market and the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, left at least 23 people dead and over 100 injured.

Condemning the attacks during his Eid-el-Fitr message, the Sultan urged security forces to take the fight directly to terrorist strongholds rather than waiting to respond to attacks. He stressed the need for proactive operations to curb insurgency and restore peace across the country.

The monarch described the violence as un-Islamic and reiterated that terrorism has no place in the religion. He called on the government to demonstrate strong political will in safeguarding lives and property, insisting that decisive action must be taken to eliminate criminal elements nationwide.

He also urged Nigerians to promote unity and peaceful coexistence, noting that sustained efforts are needed to strengthen national stability and development. According to him, collective responsibility is key to overcoming the country’s security challenges.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Labour Congress expressed concern over rising insecurity, warning that continued killings threaten national stability. The labour body called on political leaders to prioritise peace, avoid divisive rhetoric ahead of future elections, and take urgent steps to end the violence and economic hardship facing citizens.
