Summit University to take-off with 3 Colleges in December

The Vice Chancellor, Summit University Offa, (SUNO), in Kwara State, Professor Hussein Oloyede, has said that the university will commence full academic work with three Colleges in December.

Prof Oloyede, who made this known on Sunday at a press conference in Offa said the university will take off with about 500 students in the three colleges.

ROYAL NEWS gathered that Summit University is owned by Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria.

The VC also said the university will commence full academic works in the colleges of Natural and Applied Science, Humanities and management and Social Science.

Oloyede added that Summit University will offer courses in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Arabic Language, Islamic Studies, English and Literature studies.

Other courses, according to the him are; Economics, Business Administration, Political Science and Accounting.

Prof Oloyede assured parents and students that tuition fees of the university will be the least among private universities in the country.

He said the university will be unique in the deliverance of its mandate in teaching, research and service to the community.

“As an avowal, we are set to produce graduates who are not only knowledgeable, highly skilled, of excellent moral characters but graduates who are exemplary distinctive in all ramifications.

“With our unique mode of teaching, we are set to make a difference by emphasizing entrepreneurial skill inherent in all the disciplines, so as to make our graduates employers of labours and not job seekers.

“We are set out to come up with new programmes from time to time, to ensure periodic review and updating of our curriculum to make it responsive to new challenges,” Oloyede added.

The VC however declared that the university was set out to embark on result oriented research for immediate and long term benefits of humanity.

“Ours at Summit University shall be collaborative research involving other universities, local, international research institutes and industries to solve human problems.

“As a foremost faith-based institution, this university is set out to inculcate moral values into all spheres of our lives, including the discharge of our mandates in teaching, research and service to the community.

“At Summit University Offa we shall engage first class teaching and non teaching staff and make the University fully IT compliant while making our environment fully e-equipped in respect of lecture rooms, auditorium, teaching, communication and library,” the VC said.

Prof Oloyede promised that the University will promote sporting activities that will lead to producing graduates who were not intellectually sound, but also healthy.

He therefore called on the Federal Government to include private universities as beneficiaries of TETFUND projects, “TETFUND was being funded by public money, hence the need for all tertiary institutions to benefit from it.”
