    Peter Obi: Call for my arrest baseless – Lai Mohammed


    The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed on Wednesday, said
    the call for his arrest and prosecution for admonishing Labour Party (LP) Presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, over inciting the public to violence is unjustifiable.

    Mohammed stated this in London while reacting to the call by Edwin Clark, an Elder Statesman and Leader of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), that he should be arrested and prosecuted for spreading “fake news” about Obi.

    The minister said he stood by his admonition of Obi, a former Anambra State governor, and his LP running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, saying that his advice was never premised on falsehood.

    “What will be my offence? Is it by chiding the Vice Presidential candidate of the Labour Party who said on live television that if the President-elect Bola Tinubu is sworn in on May 29, that would be the end of democracy in
    Nigeria?

    “Is it to chide him for saying that swearing in Tinubu on May 29 is like swearing in the military?
    “What is the fake news in that?” Mohammed queried.

    He added, “The position of the law is clear that anybody who’s aggrieved over election results should go to court.

    “It’s not to start threatening Nigerians and heating up the polity simply because you lost an election.”

    The minister stressed that the APC won the Feb. 25 presidential election

    “fair and square”, and INEC was correct in declaring Tinubu the winner.

    Elder statesman and Ijaw Leader, Chief Edwin Clark has endorsed Peter Obi of the Labout Party (LP) as his preferred candidate for Feb. 25 presidential poll.

    Clark said this at a news conference in Abuja on Tuesday, saying that Nigeria needed a leader who was transparent and well educated and that Obi fitted into that description.

    “Given Obi’s sound educational background, distinguished antecedent in professional life and track record as one of the most outstanding governors Nigeria has ever produced, Obi is eminently qualified to lead this country as President,” he said.

    Clark said that the vision statement shared by the LP presidential candidate at a recent meeting with the National Leadership of Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) as it related to making Nigeria more productive was commendable.

    “That his restated commitment to restructuring and devolution of power will promote harmony, peaceful coexistence among states and constituent parts of the country is commendable,” he said.

    He also described Obi and and his running mate Sen. Datti Baba-Ahmad as a phenomenal team if elected.

    Clark, also the leader of PANDEF, equally requested the leadership of the forum to consult with their members at states, local governments and Diaspora levels to take further steps in supporting Obi.

    “I also call on all all Nigerians irrespective of ethnic, religious and even political backgrounds to vote Obi without hesitation, as he is our best hope of a new Nigeria of peace, stability and progress,” he said.

    ROYAL NEWS reports that the Former President Olusegun Obasanjo had also endorsed Obi for 2023 poll.

    An elderstateman, Chief Edwin Kiagbodo ClarkChief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark,  has given the condition that will necessitate is support for the presidential aspiration of Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki come 2023.

    He said this in Abuja when the Abubakar Bukola Saraki Abubakar Bukola Saraki Contact and Advocacy Council, headed by its National Chairman, Prof Iyorwuese Hagher, paid him a courtesy call to inform him about the plan of the former Senate President to contest the 2023 presidential election.

    During the visit, the group spoke on the need for national cohesion through the emergence of a presidential candidate who, over time, has shown character and competence to deliver on national issues.

    In his remarks, Clark emphasized the need to present a credible candidate who understands the dynamics in every part of Nigeria, citing the fact that Saraki possessed all the qualities.

    Clark also noted the sterling performance of Saraki in the 8th Senate8th Senate, while emphasizing that if the Southern part of the country failed to produce a consensus candidate, he would support Saraki’s presidential ambition.

    “We have been agitating for the presidency to be zoned to the south. However, if we fail to come up with a consensus candidate in the South, I will have no option but to support Dr Bukola Saraki,” Chief Clark declared.     The delegation included Sen. Solomon Ewuga, Sen. Bello Adokwe, Hon. Idem Unyime, Hon Moses Aliyu, and other prominent PDP chieftains.
