    Nigerian rapper Olanrewaju Ogunmefun, popularly known as Vector Tha Viper, says one of his songs played a role in helping a psychiatric patient overcome depression.

    The rapper disclosed this during an appearance on The Honest Bunch podcast, where he discussed the impact of conscious music.

    According to him, the measure of success in music should go beyond chart rankings to the influence it has on listeners’ lives.

    “I can tell when people are going through a tough time because certain records come up on streams,” Vector said. “Like the record with Seyi Vibez, Mercy. When it pops up, you will know that people have started overthinking. And that is what music should really be—something people can connect with depending on what they’re going through.”

    He recalled how his 2021 single Early Momo, featuring Goodgirl LA, was reported to have lifted a psychiatric patient out of depression.

    “I got a message from a psychiatric home that said it helped somebody that was depressed,” he revealed. “That’s a successful moment in somebody else’s life that I didn’t even intend to. So, success has different definitions.”

    The rapper, known for songs such as King Kong and Comfort, emphasized that for him, music’s greatest value lies in its ability to heal, inspire, and provide comfort to listeners facing personal struggles.

    Celebrity chef Hilda Baci’s mother has attributed her daughter’s Guinness World Record for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice to prayer, fasting, and God’s mercy.     She recounted how Baci planned to cook a six-metre-wide pot using 250 bags of basmati rice, prompting concerns over the pot’s size and stability. “When she sent me the video of the pot, I said, what kind of rice is this one? That pot was like my office,” Bassey said, describing the meticulous preparations that included fasting, prayer, and careful supervision of the event.

    The giant pot eventually required 200 bags of rice, 20 goats, 30 gallons of oil, and large quantities of tomato paste and seasoning. Mrs. Bassey recalled her fears about the pot collapsing but said her faith reassured her. “It was made by man, but you are God. May it not leak. Because if it leaked, the flame and the gas would catch fire. That would have turned joy to disaster. But God did it,” she said.

    According to Bassey, her daughter encouraged the team to pray in the final minutes of cooking. “About 40 minutes to go, she came to me and said, ‘Mommy, we need to pray in the Holy Ghost. This is the first time you people will eat rice that the Holy Ghost will cook,’” she said.

    Guinness officials later verified the achievement, weighing the pot with a crane and confirming the record. The final serving weighed 8,780 kilograms (19,356 lb 9 oz), setting a new world record.

    Baci, who first gained recognition with a Guinness cook-a-thon in 2023, now holds two world records, cementing her status as one of Nigeria’s leading culinary figures. She celebrated the accomplishment on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “We have done it again #nigeria #hildabaci.”

    Mrs. Bassey also expressed gratitude for the massive turnout at the event. “When I saw the crowd, I just said, what God cannot do does not exist. Father, no one will collapse here, no death, no accident, no evil report. And that was how it ended, everything in praise,” she said.

    The record-breaking feat took place at Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria, and drew widespread attention for its scale, faith-driven preparation, and flawless execution.

    Lewis Capaldi to Headline Leeds’ Roundhay Festival 2026

    Scottish singer Lewis Capaldi has been confirmed as the first headliner for the new Roundhay Festival in Leeds, set to take place at Roundhay Park on 4 July 2026.

    The 28-year-old, known for hits such as Before You Go, Pointless, and Wish You The Best, has six UK number one singles and two chart-topping albums. He will also perform at British Summer Time (BST) Hyde Park in London a week later, on 11 July.

    Roundhay Park, one of Europe’s largest urban parks, has previously hosted global acts including Madonna, The Rolling Stones, and Michael Jackson. Leeds City Council, which is partnering on the new festival, said the event would help raise the city’s profile nationally and internationally while boosting the local economy.

    Capaldi, who took a break from touring after his 2023 Glastonbury set, made a brief return to the festival earlier this year. Jim King, chief executive of AEG Presents UK and European Festivals, described him as “fast becoming a legend for a new generation” and called his Roundhay performance “the true comeback that everyone has been waiting for.”

    Leeds councillors recently approved a capacity of nearly 70,000 for events at the park. The last major concert there was Ed Sheeran’s 2019 shows, which drew crowds of up to 80,000.

    Writing on his X handle, Terry G explained that repeated discouraging statements at home become internalised and later shape adult behavior. “When you say, ‘you can’t do this, you can’t do that,’ you’re only repeating what your father and mother told you growing up,” he noted.

    He urged Nigerians to break the cycle of negativity and adopt a positive mindset. “Now you see you’ve carried that same energy into adulthood, and that’s why many are stuck in failure. It’s time to break that cycle. It’s time to change that mindset,” he wrote.

    Nollywood actress Dayo Amusa says she has forgiven TikTok content creator Olaoluwa Segun, who falsely claimed she was HIV positive.

    In July, Amusa threatened legal action after Olaoluwa, known on TikTok as unofficial_olas001, listed her among five actors he alleged were living with HIV. The actress swiftly debunked the claim, explaining the creator had misused a 2019 post where she encouraged fans to get tested after confirming her negative status.

    At the time, Amusa vowed to make him a “scapegoat” to deter others from spreading false information. But in a video posted to Instagram on Monday, she announced she had chosen to forgive him after learning he had recently lost his mother, was only 27 years old, and had met with his family members.

    “I did promise to make him a scapegoat, which I did, but along the line I realised he just lost his mum. I got to realise he is just a 27-year-old boy. I also got to meet his relatives, including his uncle,” she said.

    Amusa also shared a video of Olaoluwa publicly apologising, saying: “I want to apologise to her fans, I’m very sorry about that. Now we’re friends.”

    The actress thanked her fans for their support, writing, “Case closed. To err is human, to forgive is divine.”

    Olaoluwa, in a separate TikTok video on Monday, revealed he spent two days in detention at Yaba Panti police station over the matter. “Aside from losing my mum, that was the worst experience of my life,” he said, thanking Amusa for her decision to forgive him.

    The judge upheld his $75,000 bail and modified his release terms to allow him to remain out of state. His next hearing has been scheduled for November 18.

    Outside the courthouse, defense attorney Drew Findling declined to elaborate on the nature of the treatment but emphasized it was in the rapper’s best interest. “We’re doing what is best for Montero from a personal and professional standpoint, but most importantly for his well-being,” he said.

    Lil Nas X was arrested in Studio City on August 21 after being filmed walking in his underwear and cowboy boots. Authorities allege he resisted arrest and attacked officers, leading to four felony charges filed on August 25.

    Mobo Awards to Mark 30th Anniversary in Manchester

    The Mobo Awards will celebrate their 30th edition in Manchester for the first time on 26 March 2026, organisers have announced.

    The ceremony, which honours black music, culture and excellence from the UK and beyond, will take place at the newly opened Co-Op Live Arena.

    Launched in London in 1996, the Mobos have since been staged in cities across the UK and are credited with helping to launch the careers of stars including Little Simz, Stormzy, Central Cee and Raye.

    Over the years, the awards have also drawn international icons such as Janet Jackson, Diana Ross, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Sade, Amy Winehouse and Usher.

    To mark the milestone, organisers are planning a week-long fringe festival in Manchester ahead of the main event. The programme will feature industry panel discussions, live music showcases and workshops.

    “This is going to be our biggest show yet,” organisers said, adding that details of hosts, performers and nominees will be released in the coming months.

    The move to Manchester marks a new chapter for the Mobos as they celebrate three decades of spotlighting black talent and culture on a global stage.
