Tinubu, Governors Celebrate Eid-el-Fitr, Preach National Unity

Date:

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and worldwide on the celebration of Eid-el-Fitr, urging them to sustain the virtues of piety, compassion, and unity learned during Ramadan. In a statement by his aide, Bayo Onanuga, the president called on the faithful to remain committed to humanity and national development, while also extending kindness to people of all faiths.

Similarly, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, said Nigeria could be entering a “new dawn,” attributing the country’s resilience amid challenges to prayers offered during Ramadan. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar also urged Muslims to uphold peace and charity, while calling on the government to prioritise the protection of lives and property.

Across states, governors echoed similar messages. Seyi Makinde advised vigilance and prayers for peace, while Biodun Oyebanji urged support for national progress and peaceful elections. Peter Mbah, Bala Mohammed, and Sheriff Oborevwori all called for unity, sacrifice, and continued compassion beyond Ramadan.

Traditional and corporate voices also weighed in. The Alaafin of Oyo, Akeem Owoade, warned that moral decline threatens Nigeria’s development, while Globacom encouraged Nigerians to embrace love, sacrifice, and communal living as lasting lessons of the season.

Meanwhile, security agencies assured a peaceful celebration, with the police placing personnel on high alert nationwide. The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria also urged members to celebrate responsibly, avoid carrying weapons, and maintain peaceful coexistence with host communities, especially as the farming season begins
