President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed sympathy to the family, associates and the Nigerian football community over the death of former Super Eagles head coach, Festus Adegboye Onigbinde. Onigbinde died on Monday at the age of 88.
In a condolence message, Tinubu extended his sympathies to the Nigeria Football Federation, the National Sports Commission, as well as professional colleagues and football fans across the country.
The President described the late Modakeke High Chief as a respected figure who made significant contributions to the growth and development of Nigerian football over the years.
Tinubu noted that Onigbinde distinguished himself as the first indigenous coach of the Super Eagles in 1982 and later led Nigeria to the final of the 1984 Africa Cup of Nations.
He added that the veteran coach would be remembered for his discipline, integrity and dedication to the sport, while praying for the repose of his soul and comfort for his family and loved ones.
