Troops Intercept Suspected ISWAP Attack on Yobe School

Date:

Troops of the 159 Military Battalion in Kanamma have intercepted suspected ISWAP terrorists attempting to steal roofing zinc from Ngamma Primary School in Ngamma village, Yunusari Local Government Area of Yobe State.

The incident, reported on X by Zagazola Makama, a Lake Chad counter-insurgency expert, occurred on February 9 around 9:00 p.m. when gunmen armed with sophisticated weapons invaded the school.

Makama said the terrorists had mobilized some community youths to assist in removing the roofing materials. Personnel of 159 Military Battalion were swiftly deployed, engaging the insurgents and preventing further destruction.

During the exchange, a 19-year-old resident, Umar Maigari, was injured by a stray bullet, sustaining a gunshot wound to his left leg. He was rushed to Specialist Hospital, Geidam, where he is reportedly responding to treatment.

Authorities say the situation has been brought under control, with ongoing monitoring and intelligence operations to prevent future attacks.
