Motorists on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway were stranded for hours on Wednesday after a truck driver allegedly blocked both lanes at the Ogere axis to protest alleged extortion by officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
Witnesses said the driver claimed FRSC officers seized his truck battery, prompting him to stop his vehicle across the Ibadan-bound lane in protest.
The situation escalated as other truck drivers joined in solidarity, extending the blockade to the Lagos-bound lane and causing a total shutdown of traffic on the busy highway.
Security personnel, including police officers and soldiers, reportedly attempted to clear the obstruction, but the growing crowd of aggrieved drivers and onlookers hindered their efforts, leaving the gridlock unresolved for several hours.
More story shortly.
