UBA Partners with Renewvia Solar to Deploy Renewable Energy Across Nigeria

Date:

In a landmark move to strengthen sustainable investment and Nigeria-Norway economic ties, United Bank for Africa (UBA) has partnered with Renewvia Solar Nigeria to implement renewable energy solutions in 25 UBA branches across five Nigerian states.

The partnership was officially launched at a ribbon-cutting ceremony at UBA Oba Akran 2 branch, Ikeja-Lagos, attended by the Norwegian Ambassador to Nigeria, Svein Bæra, and a tour of the inverter and battery operations led by the Renewvia team.

According to UBA, the initiative underscores the bank’s commitment to sustainability and innovation. UBA Group Chairman Tony O. Elumelu, speaking at the recent Norway-Africa Business Summit in Oslo, emphasized Africa’s potential as a hub of opportunity rather than a recipient of aid. “Africa needs partners, not charity,” Elumelu said, calling for deeper collaboration rooted in entrepreneurship and investment.

Under a 10-year Power-as-a-Service agreement, Renewvia will install advanced solar and battery hybrid systems to enhance power reliability, operational efficiency, and customer experience. Once fully rolled out, the project will cover 50 branches in 18 states, with a total solar capacity of 3 MWp and 7 MWh of energy storage.

UBA Deputy Managing Director Muyiwa Akinyemi highlighted that sustainability is integral to Africa’s future development. Renewvia MD Adebowale Dosunmu described the partnership as a milestone in providing reliable, clean energy to Nigeria’s commercial and industrial sectors.

Other stakeholders, including Incremental Energy Solutions CEO @ Omodara and Empower New Energy CEO Terje Osmundsen, praised UBA’s proactive support and emphasized their roles in financing and implementing the project.

Ambassador Bæra described the collaboration as a “shining example of what can be achieved when African ambition meets Nordic investment and innovation,” signaling potential for further cross-continental partnerships in renewable energy.
