Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has inaugurated the reconstruction of the Jaba–Kwoi Road, describing it as a vital economic link and a long-awaited intervention for communities in Southern Kaduna.
The project is part of a broader infrastructure programme launched on August 7, covering road construction and rehabilitation across all 23 local government areas. The initiative aims to boost rural transformation and improve connectivity across the state.
Managing Director of the Kaduna State Roads Agency, Dr. Abdullahi Ahmed, said the effort builds on more than 80 road projects initiated or completed in the last two years. He explained that the interventions align with Governor Sani’s vision of rural development and inclusive urban growth.
The new phase includes township roads, access roads to universities, and reconstruction of key highways. About N3.5 billion has been allocated for compensation and relocation to ensure affected communities are supported.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony in Jaba on Thursday, Sani said the project went beyond routine infrastructure delivery, calling it a personal commitment to a region long burdened by poor road conditions.
“I know the pain you have carried for many years because of this road. Each time I travel this route, I see your frustration, I understand your hardship, and I share your burden,” he said.
The governor also inaugurated the construction of an access road to the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, on the same day. He said the two projects underscored his administration’s commitment to Southern Kaduna, noting: “Your progress is Kaduna’s progress.”
Sani highlighted the strategic value of the Jaba–Kwoi Road, which links communities in Southern Kaduna to the Abuja highway and other parts of the state. He described it as “a lifeline” connecting farmers to markets and enabling economic opportunities.
Outlining his broader infrastructure agenda, the governor said the first phase of his programme covered 85 roads spanning 785 kilometres, with 44 completed so far. The second phase will deliver more than 550 kilometres of roads and bridges across over 50 new projects.
“We are building a new Kaduna State—one of unity, not division; of progress, not neglect; of fairness, not favouritism,” Sani said, urging residents of Jaba and the wider Zone 3 to view the project as a shared step toward development.
