A distinguished alumnus of the University of Ilorin and Press Secretary to the Emir of Ilorin, Dr Abdulazeez Arowona, has credited the institution with laying the foundation for his professional success. Speaking in an interview on UNILORIN 89.3FM, Dr Arowona said the University played a key role in shaping his career and personal development.
Dr Arowona, who is the founder of Royal Online Newspaper and Emirate Radio Station, said his media ventures are driven by a desire to create opportunities for young journalists, noting that many media organisations in Nigeria are owned by non-practitioners. He described his work with the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr) Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, CFR, as smooth and fulfilling, attributing the experience to the monarch’s calm disposition and non-confrontational leadership style.
The Press Secretary also highlighted his contributions to scholarship, revealing that his book The Royal Stool was written to preserve institutional memory and serve as a resource for researchers. His latest publication, Spiritual Orator, he said, honours the late Chief Imam of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr) Muhammad Basheer Soliu, OON, reflecting his commitment to heritage preservation.
Dr Arowona, who holds traditional titles including Shettima of Okuta Emirate and Chikansoro Tangale, is an accomplished journalist with several professional certifications and memberships in reputable professional bodies.
