UNILORIN VC Hails JUPEB’s Role in Admissions

Date:

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has described the Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) as a key driver of reform in Nigeria’s higher education system, saying the programme is reshaping academic progression and admission pathways. He spoke on Monday, February 2, 2026, while receiving the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of JUPEB, Prof. Ademola Adeleke, and his team during a courtesy visit ahead of a JUPEB workshop hosted by the university.

Prof. Egbewole said JUPEB has earned credibility among similar programmes due to the integrity of its results, noting that reports from participating institutions show a strong commitment to fair and accurate assessment of students’ abilities. He urged stakeholders to sustain these standards while exploring ways to further strengthen the programme, adding that ongoing collaboration between JUPEB and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is helping to address gaps in admission processes.

He also thanked JUPEB for selecting the University of Ilorin as host for the workshop, describing the institution as a critical stakeholder in the programme. According to him, the JUPEB initiative originated from Ilorin before its adoption by the University of Lagos, underscoring the need for continued institutional support.

Earlier, the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of JUPEB, Prof. Ademola Adeleke, said the programme prepares candidates for direct entry admission into 200 level, with a curriculum covering 100 level courses and elements of 200 level coursework. He explained that the workshop was convened to align the JUPEB syllabus with the Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS), and commended the University of Ilorin for its facilities and for hosting the event at short notice.
