Nigerian music star Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has made history as the first African artiste to surpass 10 billion streams on Spotify.
The milestone was reached through cumulative streams across all his credits on the global streaming platform, further cementing his status as one of Africa’s most successful music exports.
Wizkid’s most streamed collaboration on Spotify is his hit song with Canadian rapper Drake and British singer Tyla, which has amassed nearly four billion streams.
His third studio album, Made in Lagos (Deluxe), stands as his most streamed project on the platform, crossing the one billion streams mark.
As a lead artiste, Wizkid’s most streamed song is Essence featuring Tems, which has recorded more than 333 million streams and remains one of the most globally recognised Afrobeats tracks.
Meanwhile, American singer Billie Eilish has also set a new Spotify record, with her song Birds of a Feather becoming the most streamed solo track by a female artiste in the platform’s history.
The song recently surpassed 3.37 billion streams, overtaking Tones and I’s Dance Monkey, which stands at about 3.3 billion streams.
