Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA successfully repelled a bandit attack and rescued five victims along the Sabon Gida–Anguwan Rogo axis in Zamfara State, security sources confirmed on Tuesday.
The incident occurred around 8:25 pm on March 29, when personnel from 1 Brigade Counter-Terrorism Unit 2, deployed at Forward Operating Base Sabon Garin, responded to reports of an assault on commuters.
During the operation, troops engaged the bandits in a firefight, forcing them to flee and leaving behind five victims, one of whom sustained gunshot wounds.
Security sources said the troops recovered the body of one victim at the scene, which was handed over to relatives, while the injured victim was evacuated to a medical facility for treatment.
Troops have since increased their presence in the area to prevent further attacks and safeguard residents.
