10th NASS: Ex-lawmaker drums support for Hon. Betara as Speaker

A former member of the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Bimbo Daramola, has affirmed that the lawmaker representing Biu/Bayo/Kwaya Kusar/Shani Federal Constituency of Borno State, Hon. Muktar Aliyu Betara, is best fit to be Speaker in the 10th National Assembly.

ROYAL NEWS reports that Betara, a candidate of the ruling APC polled a total of 71,427 votes to defeat his closest rival, Mohammed Ibrahim Biu of the Peoples Democratic Party who scored 15, 514 votes to emerge second in February 25 National Assembly election.

Daramola, in an interactive session with senior journalists added that the “capacity Betara has is unravelled,” hence the need for lawmakers in the lower chamber to give the Borno representative maximum support to became Speaker of the House.

According to him, as Chairman of Appropriation Committee, the fifth term lawmaker who represents Biu, Bayo, Kwaya Kusar and Shani Federal Constituency of Borno State, has gathered vast experience in the course of relating with Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs).

Besides, Betara has maintained harmonious working relationship with members of the House as well as the Senate whenever the need arises for the two Chambers to work together, Daramola stated.

He went on to say that his choice for speakership “is a detrabilised Nigerian with enormous ability to bring people from different backgrounds together” for the common good of all and sundry.

In this vein, the All Progressives Congress (APC), chieftain pointed out that the contribution of a bridge builder like Betara is highly needed with a view to tackling the array of challenges confronting the nation. Hence, the need to have the Rep Betara pilot affairs of the House of Representatives.

Daramola, who described the parliament “as the heart of democracy” also said that Betara if elected Speaker of the House will provide a level playing ground for all members of the House irrespective of party affiliation.

The onetime federal lawmaker, however, however thanked Hon. Betara’s constituents for rewarding the quality representation being provided by one of the own with winning votes.
