A 11year-old student of an Islamiyya centre in Elkanemi, Maiduguri, Borno State, Jubril Mato, has been slitted of his throat by a senior student of same school.

Jubril, who is currently admitted to the intensive care unit at Maiduguri University Teaching Hospital, was being punished by the senior for refusing to run errands for him.

“The senior colleague, from class SS2, had sent Jubril on an errand, but she didn’t come. That fateful night, he came to pick him up and took him to a quiet place where he severely cut his neck with a razor blade, injuring most of his arteries, nerves and windpipe,” a school source said.

The senior, according to the source, whose name has been withheld by the school management, left the victim for dead with the body drenched in blood. After a few minutes, Mr. Jubril struggled and made his way to the principal’s office, before finally collapsing and becoming unconscious.

Mr. Jubril was rushed to Maiduguri University Teaching Hospital and left in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit.

The perpetrator, who was said to have been indoctrinated with psychotropic substances, was later arrested and handed over to the police for further investigation.

The incident, according to the source, occurred on Saturday, January 16, 2022, but the school management hid it in order to keep it away from the public.

The victim, Jubril, is said to be the son of the late Kano State Federal High Court Judge Sadi Mato, and his mother, Hajiya Aisha, remarried a senior Yobe State government official.

However, much to the chagrin of the victim’s relatives, Aisha’s new husband (Jubril’s stepfather), who was called in by the school administration shortly after the incident, has been dissuading the victim and her mother from reporting the incident. attack.

A school staff, who also spoke to journalists, confirmed that Jubril Mayo’s case is not the first, as there have been several such cases that have occurred at the school, but the school management continued to hide the incidents. which have led to an increase in crime.

“This is not the first case of gun violence at the university. There are several other cases related to sexual abuse and gun violence, but the school administration had swept it under the rug. This likely means that we are creating more victims as a result of our inaction,” the teacher lamented.
