Gov. AbdulRazaq Commends DCC on Sensitization

Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has commended the State Drug Control Committee (DCC), in continuation of the statewide community sensitization activities at the grassroots level.

The Governor gave the commendation on Monday at Afon, during the sensitization exercise at the palace of Daudu of Afon in Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State.

Mallam AbdulRazaq disclosed that he is on an inspection tour of all ongoing projects in Asa, including the rehabilitation of Eiyenkorin Road, Afon Waterworks and the General Hospital, adding that he was happy at the coincidence of the committee’s sensitization exercise taking place in the community to rid the state of drug abuse.

The Governor lauded the State Drug Control Committee for proactively sensitizing the people at the grassroots on the dangers of drug abuse, and the use of illicit substances in various communities across the state.

He charged the youths and the entire residents of Asa to shun abuse of drugs and the use of illicit drugs to enhance a healthy environment.

In her presentation, the Chairperson, Kwara State Drug Control Committee, Pharmacist Barakat Olanrewaju appealed to the community elders, under the leadership of Daudu of Afon, describing them as rallying points to voice out against the abuse of drugs and its dire consequences on the people and their communities.

Pharmacist Olanrewaju charged the youths, especially Students of Government Secondary School, Afon, to shun the usage of hard substance, which is dangerous to health and capable of cutting short their lives when addicted.

Earlier at Government Secondary School, Afon, the representative of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, SNA Mrs. Sukurat Sulugambari enjoined both the students and elders of Afon to assist the government in escalating the information to the entire community in order to discourage the youths from taking hard substance.

Appreciating the Governor and the State Drug Control Committee, Daudu Afon, Mallam Hanafi Balogun expressed appreciation to the Governor AbdulRazaq-led administration for making the welfare of Asa people a priority, citing the renovation of Afon General Hospital, rehabilitation of Eiyenkorin road and the water works project, among others.

While assuring the governor of the support of the entire people of Asa Local Government at all times, the community leader promised to sensitize the Afon community and its environs on the effects of drug abuse in the society.
