The Federal University of Transportation, Daura, Katsina State has matriculated 478 students as its pioneer set.
During the event which was held at the weekend,
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu urged the students of use the unique opportunity of being students of the varsity to acquire knowledge with all diligence to contribute towards the development of nation’s economy.
Represented by the Minister of Transportation, Sen Said Ahmed Alkali, the President said that the constituted Governing Council for the University has been charged with disseminating specialized knowledge in all modes of transportation to produce Nigerian experts that will utilize policy, law and industry practice to make the transport sector the bride of Nigerian economy.
He called on the matriculants to receive training at the university level in a specialized University of Transportation that is the first of its kind in Nigeria and the West African Sub-Region.
The President also commended the CCECC Nigeria Limited for the multi-dimensional support and commitments in building the University as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility to Nigeria and for extending special support towards successful conduct of this matriculation ceremony.
“As Nigeria continue to laud this giant contribution, it becomes imperative to appeal to CCECC Nigeria Limited to sustain similarcommitments as it embarks on the 2nd phase of development project of the University,” he said .
In his address, the Vice-Chancellor, FUTD, Prof. Umar Adam Katsayal, said the
University was establised to safeguard and sustain the huge investment of the Federal and State Governments in the transportation sector, while also addressing the need for a transport focused education, training, and research-based institution which would address the dearth of human capacity in the transportation industry with the aim of strengthening the Nigeria’s transport system.
Speaking on the University’s project, “CCECC Nigeria Limited agreed to contribute with building of take-off classes, laboratories, workshops and dormitories as an obligation from the profits being made from the Lagos to Kano Railway Modernization Project for development of the University in form of corporate social responsibility (CSR).”
